Year 3 at Holy Family are helping to
create a greener world!

Our Year 3 students have been very busy learning about sustainable environments, worm farms and all things compost! The students have been involved in hands on research about plants as a part of their integrated unit. A Learning Patch has been established outside the Year 3 block. Please feel free to pop in and have look at this work in progress. We are very grateful to our Parents and Friends Learning Patch Team for all of their hard work.

Great Resource for Catholic Families

We are delighted to be able to provide families in our community with this valuable resource. The Catholic Family Enews is an online monthly newsletter that covers topics relevant to catholic parents and covers a great range of topics. The August newsletter has some great suggestions for building optimism in children. We hope you can use some of these insights in your daily role as parents. Please visit the Catholic Family Enews at www.cathfamily.org

Olympic Fever hits Holy Family

4 White hosted a most entertaining class assembly on Friday. We had our very own Olympics Opening Ceremony, complete with flags and children dressed in the colours of many countries, representing the athletes. We heard some Olympic facts and were amazed by some of the world records currently held. How do people jump that high or that far?

Healthy Bones Week

The children at Holy Family were treated to a special morning tea last Tuesday to help mark the celebration of National Healthy Bones Week. We all enjoyed our calcium rich milk, some children even used some flavoured straws to add to the experience.
The Healthy Bones Colouring In competition received many fine entries. The winner of the competition will be announced very soon!

Many of our children were also given a chance to highlight some of the reasons they believe our school canteen is 'The Best Bone Building Canteen'. They gave their reasons in 25 words or less. Some of the entries included ideas about milk being available all the time and the fact that calcium rich cheesy breads were delicious! Last year a student at Holy Family School won some great prizes through this competition. Let's hope we can win it again. Winners will be announced soon.

Some of our Year 6 students have been busy making moving models of joints as a part of their Integrated Unit on the human body. Alex made an amazing model of a knee joint...
Don't stand too close, you might get kicked!

Farewell Father Emil

Heading for the coast....

It was with great sadness that the Holy Family community said farewell to Father Emil last Monday at our Prayer Assembly. Father Emil has become a very well loved member of our Holy Family family and we are going to miss him greatly. We wish Father Emil God's blessing as he heads to the south coast to take up his new appointment as the Parish Priest at Moruya.

National Tree Day

Our school gardens are looking a lot brighter and healthier after the students at Holy Family participated enthusiastically in National Tree Day. This is a nation wide initiative which enabling schools to symbolise the importance of native trees to environment in a very real way.

Every class in our school received a native tree and they selected a spot in the garden in which their tree would receive the sunshine and water in needs to grow. What a fantastic experience for all of our students. There has already been evidence of drink bottle emptying at the end of each day having a positive impact on the health of our trees.... Keep up the nurturing.

Road Zone Performance

Our Primary Students were treated to a fantastic live performance presented by NRMA as part of out Safety Awareness Program. The performance touched on bike safety, the importance of wearing seatbelts and keeping distractions to a minimum in the cars while it is in motion, the impact fatigue can have on the concentration of a driver.
